Who’s Who Wednesday: Prince Henry the Navigator 

A statue honoring Henry the Navigator is everywhere in Portugal, a testament to how important and proud the Portuguese people are of him. Who is Prince Henry the Navigator?The Duke of Viseu, the third child of King John I of Portugal, was an important political figure in the early days of the Portuguese Empire. Prince Henry ushered in the Age of Exploration. With his direction, Portuguese colonization and maritime trade took off.In the statue in front of the Stock Exchange in Porto, he points toward the river as if to say, “Sail away!”
